Obituary

Alfred "Al" J. Ambrose, age 91, of Murfreesboro and a native of Mount Vernon, New York in Westchester County, died Monday at The Health Center at Adam's Place. He was preceded in death by his wife, Espe Michos Ambrose; a daughter, Barbara Ambrose, his parents, Frank and Lucy Ambrosecchia; a sister, Mary Silviotti and brothers, Michael, Edward, John and Ernest Ambrose. Mr. Ambrose is survived by his daughter, Lorraine Vincent and granddaughter, Jessica Short and her husband Jase, all of Murfreesboro. Mr. Ambrose graduated from A.B. Davis High School in 1941 in Mount Vernon, NY. Among other school positions he served as his class President and was voted a member in the National Honors Society while in high school. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Air Corp where he obtained the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was assigned to the 4th Island Command in the South Pacific serving on the Islands of New Caledonia, New Hebridies and Fiji Island for 33 months. After honorable discharge, he was employed by the Singer Company for 44 years. His great accomplishment was assisting W.A. Boyd, manager, in setting up the Singer Distribution Center in Murfreesboro, TN in 1956. The distribution center stocked over 50,000 parts and needles for shipment throughout the entire world. He held various positions at the center as Stock Controls Supervisor, Operational manager, Export Supervisor and Warehouse Supervisor. Mr. Ambrose had a life honorary membership with the Knights of Columbus, having served as Financial Secretary for a period of time. Mr. Ambrose is a member of the Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Rose Catholic School in Murfreesboro. The family wishes to thank the staff of Adam's Place for the excellent care they provided. Visitation will be Wednesday night from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. A mass will be held 10:00am Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Mass will be conducted by Fathers Mark Sappenfield, Joseph Breen and Bala Showraiah. Burial with military honors will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
