Obituary

Alan Wayne Whitmore, age 77 of Murfreesboro, died Saturday at the Residence at Alive Hospice, Nashville. He was a native of Phillipsburg, New Jersey and a son of the late William and Ruth Whitmore. He was the loving and devoted husband to Shirley Mason Whitmore who passed in 2015. He was also preceded by siblings, Ruth Norton, William J. Whitmore, Jr., Doris M. Jewell, and Sharyn Besse.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Taylor and partner Jan Reese of Madison; nieces, Carol Jewell of Colorado Springs, CO, and Johnel Scarborough of Socorro, NM; a nephew, Larry Jewell of Fairview, TX and special family friend, Myra Mason of Murfreesboro; and a host of loving family and friends.

Mr. Whitmore was a longtime member of River Rock Baptist Church and a United States Air Force Veteran. He was an airplane mechanic and had worked many years for both AVCO and Capital Air. He loved restoring old cars and exploring antique stores.

Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Tuesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel with Bro. Don Herron officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.
