Whitney “Whit” Stegall, Jr., age 56, of Brentwood, TN died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, August 31, 2014. He was born in Murfreesboro, TN and was the son of the late Whitney and Orene Cowan Stegall. He is survived by his wife Sherry Hammons Stegall, daughters Sabrina and Sydney of Brentwood and Stephanie Sturges of Atlanta, GA; his sister Amy (Kevin) Swartz, niece Shannon Swartz and nephew Ben Swartz of Murfreesboro; aunt and uncle Dr. Jim and Adelyn Stegall Stevenson of Atlanta; numerous cousins.

Whit attended Campus School, one year at Central High School and was a 1975 graduate of Oakland High School, Murfreesboro, TN. Active in Boy Scouts, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Whit was a Regional Vice President of Primerica Financial Services. He was a dedicated husband and father. He enjoyed many hours of work and play at the family farm.

One of Whit’s favorite quotes was from Clarence the angel in It’s a Wonderful Life: “Remember, George: no man is a failure who has friends.” Whit was blessed to call many people his friends and he was generous to all.

Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church, Murfreesboro at 3 pm Thursday, Sep. 4 with a service to celebrate Whit’s life immediately following at 5 pm.

Memorial donations may be made to the children’s college fund at First Tennessee Bank, any Veterans organization or the American Heart Association.
